A new opportunity is here for everyone in the area to enjoy public art and for business to attract visitors to their location: the Morehead Kentucky Turtle Walk!

Leadership Morehead members learned from our presentation about how county government works. Our Rowan County Fiscal Court Director of Operations Dylan Lambert spoke at length to members of the leadership team.

With great sadness, Judge Clark and the Rowan County Fiscal Court join our community in mourning the passing of former Sheriff Jack Carter. Jack served Rowan County for decades and was one of the longest serving Sheriffs in the state.

The University of Kentucky Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Morehead offers educational and enrichment courses, programs and events for a diverse community of learners 50 years of age and older. Some spring classes have just begun, but online registration is still open.

Thanks to the teamwork between Rowan County, the City of Morehead, and Morehead-Rowan County Tourism, folks had the opportunity to skate locally this holiday season. We worked together to purchase and install an Ice Skating Rink, located on First Street next to the Moonlight School.

The John “Pete” B. Hamm Station 2 is now complete. This facility will serve as a lasting impact well into the future for the health and safety of the citizens of Rowan County.

Early warning is key for safety in emergency weather conditions, and the Rowan County Fiscal Court invested in the safety of our community by installing two new tornado sirens.

This Thanksgiving season, our community has come together in a remarkable show of generosity to help ensure that families in our community don’t go without during the holiday. This initiative, led by dedicated Rowan County Fiscal Court and RCDC employees, Judge-Executive Harry Clark, Magistrates, and Jailer Wes Coldiron, has garnered tremendous support from citizens and local businesses, making it a true testament to the spirit of giving.

In order to help meet the needs of the community this holiday season, Judge-Executive Harry Clark and Fiscal Court employees and Magistrates, Jailer Wes Coldiron and Rowan County Detention Center employees, with great community support from Commonwealth Cooperage and St. Claire HealthCare, as well as ALL local grocery stores and supermarkets, ask the people of Morehead and Rowan County to consider donating canned and shelf-stable foods to help ensure that families in our community don’t go without this Thanksgiving.

Morehead-Rowan County Tourism is leading the way in demonstrating the importance of outdoor recreation in the tourism industry. We’re being recognized not only in Eastern Kentucky but all across the state. Rowan County has also pulled into third place in our 15-county region after holding strong in 4th and 5th place for 5 years. We're very excited that people traveling are choosing our community to visit.

The Morehead-Rowan-MSU Community Recycling Center received a $204,000 grant to support the cost of equipment. Read this article and watch our video for more information about recycling.

Serving the animal control needs of the county promotes the public health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens Rowan County and ensures the humane treatment of animals within the county.

The Rowan County Veterans Foundation will be hosting a new event in our community this September: A Living History of the Vietnam War. They will have a USO show at the Battson-Oates Commons at 7 PM- 10 PM on Friday, September 15th (preshow at 6 PM), and living history displays on September 16th from 9 AM- 5 PM.

Senior Centers are a focal point for community engagement among senior citizens. They go above and beyond acting as gathering places for older folks; they hold important programs that make a tangible improvement in their quality of life. Rowan County has a lot to celebrate with the creation of our first ever dedicated Senior Center building, which will offer essential services to seniors: providing them a place to gather, promoting health and nutrition, offering information for independent living, and delivering social outreach services.

The Rowan County Fiscal Court hired Justin Caudill as building inspector for Rowan County and Rodney Perkins for maintenance of county facilities.

Rowan County has a lot to celebrate! Governor Andy Beshear announced more than $2.5 million in funding for Rowan County, to support our local airport, tourism, economic development, new senior center building, Clearfork Road, safe household hazardous waste disposal, and recycling. Governor Beshear said, “This is what we can do when we come together to build a better Kentucky.” We look forward to the long-term benefits this funding will bring to our community.

Reapportionment is the process by which the boundaries of Fiscal Court districts are redrawn based on the decennial census. Magistrates serve as members of the Fiscal Court representing their district, and the number varies from county to county with three being the legal minimum and eight being the legal maximum. Rowan County will soon be the home of the Commonwealth's newest addition to our signature bourbon industry, Eastern Light Distilling - a $143.7M investment expected to bring over 50 new jobs to our community. We expect Eastern Light Distilling’s announcement today will have a major positive impact in regards to tourism and economic development, and we believe that this investment speaks volumes to the quality of workforce and expansive capabilities we can bring to the table here in Rowan County.

The Rowan County Fiscal Court is investing in the safety of our community by installing two new tornado sirens. We have received grants which will cover half the cost, and the Fiscal Court will pay the other half.

The Army Corps of Engineers and EMS Director Danny Blevins held a Lake Safety Day at Stoney Cove, Cave Run Lake on Saturday July 22nd. Attendees practiced water safety, including but not limited to dive search, rescue training, and removing a victim in the water.
