Thanksgiving Food Drive to Help Meet Community Needs

In order to help meet the needs of the community this holiday season, Judge-Executive Harry Clark and Fiscal Court employees and Magistrates, Jailer Wes Coldiron and Rowan County Detention Center employees, with great community support from Commonwealth Cooperage and St. Claire HealthCare, as well as ALL local grocery stores and supermarkets, ask the people of Morehead and Rowan County to consider donating canned and shelf-stable foods to help ensure that families in our community don’t go without this Thanksgiving.

From Friday, November 3 to Thursday, November 16, shoppers can purchase canned and shelf-stable foods to donate and deposit it in barrels near the entrances of Walmart, Kroger, Allen’s IGA, and Save-a-lot. We will also be taking donations at the Rowan County Courthouse.

On Thursday, November 16, the donated goods will be transferred to the Rowan County Detention Center, where inmates and staff will help to package and box the food. Our goal is to get 200 boxes together for families to be able to pick up at the drive-up distribution.

Our generous partners, Commonwealth Cooperage and St. Claire Healthcare, each donated 100 Thanksgiving turkeys for these much-needed family holiday meals. We are incredibly grateful for their support and generosity towards our community.

The holiday meal box distribution will take place at the Rowan County Detention Center on Monday, November 20. Please consider helping us meet this community’s need this holiday season by donating shelf-stable foods at one of the sites listed above.
