Rowan County Board of Education
This month, we wanted to highlight a board that does important work that impacts people all across the county, and the Rowan County Board of Education works hard to do this for our school district.
The mission of the Rowan County School District is to provide individuals with sufficient knowledge and skills for lifelong learning, to have respect for themselves and others, and to become productive citizens in an atmosphere that encourages creativity, as well as physical and emotional well-being through a joint effort of the family, school and community.
Superintendent John Maxey, Sheriff Matt Sparks, and the Rowan County Fiscal Court have partnered to ensure that all Rowan County School campuses have a School Resource Officer in response to a new Kentucky state law that went into effect in May. At the July 19th board of education meeting, Sheriff Sparks introduced the newly hired school resource officers to the community. “This will allow us to have a School Resource Officer in every school, every day.” commented Sheriff Sparks. Additionally, Superintendent Maxey announced the hiring of a new full time Safe Schools Coordinator and School Resource Officer, Larry Robinson. Superintendent Maxey added, “Mr. Robinson’s new role will allow him to work with all schools in the district to monitor best practice for school safety.” Judge Executive Harry Clark and the Rowan County Fiscal Court is providing the newly hired school resource officers with police cruisers and equipment. It's important to us to keep our children safe, and that's only one of the many efforts the board has underway to create a school environment that encourages well-being for the future of our community.
